Tissue Expanders—Placement and Removal

Controlled skin stretching results in new skin growth that matches the color, texture and thickness of the surrounding skin. This is most often accomplished by the insertion of an inflatable expander beneath the skin with period injections of saline solutions to slowly stretch the skin. This procedure is used for many cosmetic purposes and to replace skin lost from trauma, wounds, surgery or burns.
